KANO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY
The State House of Assembly was established in fulfillment of the principle of separation of powers between the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary as spelt out in the 1999 Constitution. Among the many constitutional functions are:
- Enactment of Laws for the good governance of the State
- Ratification of nominees submitted by the Executive for appointment as Commissioners
- Performing oversight functions on all aspects of governance and the management of public funds
The Speaker is the Chief Executive officer of the Assembly. The Clerk of the house who is the Chief accounting officer assists him. As an appointed officer of the rank of a Permanent Secretary, the Clerk is the coordinating officer and head of administration of the State Assembly. He has five departments under him, namely Administration and General Services, Legislative matters, Legal Drafting, Publication and Information and Library and Research.
