MINISTRY OF INFORMATION, YOUTH,SPORTS AND CULTURE

This ministry Coordinates and manages for government, the process and mechanism for information dissemination through its public enlightenment unit and the media parastatals, namely, Radio Kano, STV 67/48, Triumph Publishing Company.

It is responsible for mobilizing the citizenry on the activities and programs of government. It oversees the National Youth Service Corps Scheme in the State. It handles matters relating to naturalization and indigeneship.It also handles for government all other Youth and Cultural Affairs issues.

The ministry also coordinates all sporting activities. The following are the organizations under the ministry:

TRIUMPH PUBLISHING COMPANY

The company publishes and prints Triumph, Alfijir and Albashir newspapers. It also publishes and engages in commercial printing and other related activities. The company has a Board of Directors and a management committee headed by a Managing director. Other components are the departments of Administration, Accounts, Editorial, Commercial Services and Technical Services.

KANO STATE RADIO CORPORATION. (RADIO KANO)

At the top of the structure is a Board of directors with a Managing Director as chief Executive office. There are also five Directorates, namely; Administration and General Services, commercial Services, Engineering Services, Programs and News and Current Affairs. Radio Kano serves as an all media organization that operates both AM and FM radio services. It is medium of education, information and entertainment.

KANO STATE TELEVISION CORPORATION (CTV 67)

A Board governs this organization with a Managing Director and three Directors of Administration, Engineering and Television as the main operating units. There is also a Commercial department, which is not a full directorate, but reports to the Managing Director. It operates on UHF television channel and serves as medium that promotes government policies, information, education and entertainment to the public 

HISTORY AND CULTURE BUREAU

Its structure consists of the board of Directors as the policy making organ and a management headed by the Executive Director. There are three main departments, namely, Administration and Finance, Arts and Culture and Archives and Antiquities. The departments are further sub-divided into sections and units in line with their functions.This bureau carries out the following activities:

  • Organization and undertaking of historical research, studies, lectures seminars, workshops and exhibitions in the State
  • Fosters, encourages and promotes the development of Arts and Culture in the State

KANO PRINTING CORPORATION

The corporation has a board at the apex of its structure, and a Managing Director who runs the organization with the assistance of two Executive Directors. The two Directors, namely that of Administration and General Services and that of Production and Marketing head the two main units of the corporation. This organization is the official printer of the government it publishes and print approved laws, as well as classified government documents. 

KANO STATE SPORTS COUNCIL

At the apex is a Board of Directors. The Director of Sports is the chief Executive officer, assisted by a Deputy Director. The Secretary oversees and coordinates the functions of the departments and sections.The council promotes and develops sports in the state and it also organizes and encourages sporting competitions in the state. It sets the standard of sports performance in the state as well as coordinates the activities of associations, clubs and other sporting organizations in the state

CENSORSHIP BOARD

The management is headed by an Executive Secretary, who is assisted by the Directors in-charge of film Production and Development, Administration and General Services, as well as Publication.The functions of the board are:

  • To screen, censor any film, observe books and literature before releasing to the general public;
  • To register the State Film Industry operators and other related persons;
  • To issue licenses and permits;
  • To impose guidelines, regulations or conditions applicable on persons or bodies in the business of production, sales and distribution of any film, photography, books or publications in the State
