GOVERNMENT HOUSE
The Permanent-Secretary is in charge of coordination of the general affairs of Government House. This includes the provision of services for the main office and residence, up-keep of general facilities and the environment, ensuring the well-being of His Excellency, the Executive Governor, liaison and coordination with Ministries, Parastatals and Federal Agencies, etc. The departments below are under the supervision of the permanent secretary.
ADMINISTRATION AND GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT
This Department oversees the Finances and Personnel matters of the Government House. Its functions include supervision of the accounts section, control and maintenance of vehicles, supervision of stores, maintenance of buildings and utilities and personnel matters.
It also provides funds and materials for running of the other three Departments.
PRESS DEPARTMENT
The Press Department is responsible for press, publicity and image making of the Government in general and the Governor in particular. The director of press and publicity is the head of this department.
OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR SPECIAL SERVICE DIRECTORATE
The primary responsibility of any given administration is to safeguard lives and properties law and order. This is referred to as security management. The body responsible for the co-ordination of all matters relating to this security management in the State is the Special Services Directorate. The directorate constantly liaises with all security agencies operating in the state in order to check and address manifestations of all forms of threat to life and property with a view to ensuring that law and order are maintained. A permanent secretary heads the directorate. The Directorate has 3 main Departments Namely - Administration and Staff Matters, Security Monitoring and Operations and Council Affairs.
OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR RESEARCH AND DOCUMENTATION DIRECTORATE
A Director General who is also a Special Adviser to His Excellency the Governor heads this directorate.The following are the functions of the Research and Documentation Directorate:
- To serve as repository of useful data and sensitive information on all aspects of governance
- To conduct research on issues of governance and device strategies for easy implementation and maximum effect
- To serve as additional ‘eye’ and ‘ear’ of the Administration
- To make useful input into policy formulation and where necessary, or so directed, to monitor implementation
- To make useful input into all public speeches and statements of the Governor, to ensure coherence, consistency and factual basis, as well as analyze such speeches track commitments and monitor the realization of pledges.
- To ensure that the Governor is at all times adequately informed and sufficiently sensitized on topical issues locally and beyond.
- To work diligently along with relevant offices of Government for the cultivation, sustenance and safeguarding of a positive and desirable public image for the Government and its programs
- To engage in high level liaison with media institutions and practitioners, to safeguard the integrity of the Government and promotes its good image.
- To document for posterity and publish at periodic intervals, recorded activities of the Government that are of public interest.
- To provide highlights for courtesy calls
- To carryout any other responsibility as may be assigned.
OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR SPECIAL ADVISER ON UTILITY SERVICES
Some of the major responsibilities assigned to this office include the following:
Advising the Government on all NITEL activities.
Advising the Government on all National Electric Power Authority Activities.
Advising the Government on all Kano State Water Board activities.
Any other duties that may be assigned to the Special Adviser on Utility Services by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State
The function of the office include among others:
- Girl - Child Education
- Women Integration programs
- Mass Mobilization, Political education and political awareness among women of Kano State
- Women senior civil servants’ forum
The function of this office is to liaise, assist, co-ordinate and advise the governor on matters affecting members of his Party within outside the state.
As part of the effort and commitment of the administration at facilitating even development of the State, the State Government under the leadership of Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau created this office.
The Office is charged with responsibility of advising the State Chief Executive on all matters concerning economic affairs in the State. Such issues as utilization of dams, rehabilitation of irrigation schemes and construction of access roads readily came to mind.
