MINISTRY OF FINANCE

The ministry takes charge of all the state government's financial transactions and documentations. More specifically, the functions of the ministry include:

  • Depositing into the Central Account all funds accruing to the State Government from internal and external sources
  • Disbursement of funds, as may be approved by Government to all Government organizations
  • Processing and payment of salaries and pensions
  • Collection of data on actual revenue collection on monthly basis for the purpose of making quarterly report
  • Ensuring that Revenue collected by organizations are properly accounted
  • Control of security accounting documents kept in the treasury store
  • Administering purchase and/or disposal of treasury bills and bonds on behalf of the Government
  • Control of Government Deposit Accounts
  • Conducting pre-payment Auditing in Ministries and Parastatals
  • Management of Liabilities

The following parastatals are under the supervision of the ministry:

KANO STATE INVESTMENTS AND PROPERTIES. LTD (KSIP)

This is a Government owned limited liability Company. It is supervised by the state Ministry of Finance.The overriding objective of the company is to stimulate and enhance the industrial and commercial growth of Kano State as well as monitoring the housing policy of the state government. To achieve these, the company ensures:Equity participation of the state and indigenes in quoted and unquoted companies.Assisting indigenous entrepreneurs in understanding modern ways of business. Property development for reasonable return on investment

BOARD OF INTERNAL REVENUE

A statute created this Board in 1982 and the state ministry of Finance also supervises it.In accordance with the establishment law, the board has a chairman and seven other members. The current operational structure however, has an Executive Chairman under whom there are five directors. Also reporting to the Chairman are the Legal Adviser, Public Relations officer and the Internal Auditor.The primary functions of the Board are:

  • To assess, collect and account for all taxes in the state.
  • Do all such things, as are necessary and expedient for the assessment and collection of such taxes.

STATE PENSION BOARD

This organization has a board of directors as the apex body under which there is an Executive Secretary who is the Chief Executive officer. There are two departments under the office of the Executive Secretary both of which are headed by two directors respectively.

The Board facilitates easy processing and payment of retirement benefits to eligible retired employees of the state government or their heirs in the case of deceased retirees. It renders account on payment of monthly pension to the Federal Ministry of Establishment and State Ministry of finance as the case may be.

KANO STATE COMPUTER CENTER

The Kano State Computer Center is presently under the office of the Head of Service. The center was established in 1992 and commenced operation in 1994. An Executive Director heads the Center.

There are two departments and one unit namely, Operations Department, Department of Administration and General Services and Data Validations Unit. The center serves as a data bank and data processing center for the state government. It undertakes any activity that will enhance computer information technology services for the state. It is also responsible for processing payroll of public servants of the state.
