MINISTRY OF COMMERCE, INDUSTRY AND COOPERATIVES
The main objective for which the Ministry was established was the promotion of trade and commercial activities throughout the State on one hand and industrial development as well as cooperatives activities on the other hand.A Commissioner, assisted by Permanent Secretary, heads the Ministry. It has the departments of administration and general Services, commerce and cooperatives and Industry.The functions of the Ministry includes:
- Implementing State and Federal Government policies on all areas covering commerce, Industry and cooperatives as well as advising government on same.
- Monitoring and controlling of Commercial activities with a view to creating conducive atmosphere necessary for the development of Commercial ventures in the State on one hand and small, medium and even large scale industries on the other.
- Educating local Businessmen and women on modern business techniques through Radio and Television programs and seminars. This is apart from encouraging commercial activities through trade missions abroad trade fairs both local and foreign as well as liaising with commercial attaches of Nigerian Embassies and High Commissions abroad.
- Advising government on trade, industries, cooperatives and commercial matters.
- Advising government on trade, industries, cooperatives and commercial matters.
- Promoting exportation of non-oil products.
- Processing application for standard petroleum filling station and registration of surface tank petroleum selling points in the State.
- Periodic publication of commercial and industrial guide in the state and promoting inter-state trade
- Detail industrial and manufacturing sectors survey to determine the industrial potential and output of the State.
- Geological investigation and mapping out of areas with solid minerals potentialities for development in future
- Providing adequate information of available industrial product to prospective investors.
- Registration of all types of cooperative societies in the State as well as inspecting and auditing their accounts
MUHAMMADU ABUBAKAR RIMI (SABON GARI) MARKET COMPANY LIMITED
Muhammad Abubakar Rimi (Sabon Gari) market was incorporated into a limited liability company in 1995. The company status recognizes the ownership of the market by the Kano State Government and the six metropolitan Local Governments: Dala, Fagge, Gwale, Municipal, Nassarawa and Tarauni. The market is under the supervision of Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Co-operatives.
KANO STATE TOURISM MANAGEMENT BOARD
This board was established by an edict in 1994. A chairman heads it and an executive director leads the management team. It has six departments namely: External Services Department, Administration and General Services Department, Hospitality, Travel Trade Department, Marketing and Promotion Department, Legal Services Department, Planning and Consultancy Services Department.
